Marriage Ministry Presidents Martin and Fifika Bain

Marriage benefits when couples are developing spiritually together.  It is the aim of IDC’s Marriage Ministry to assist couples in developing spiritually together by teaching them to spend time in God’s word, pray, attend church regularly, and learn about what it takes to have a godly marriage.  IDC is aware that marriages which built on this foundation of faith are more likely to last.

In addition, many couples spend time together, yet they barely talk. They see each other at home, share the same bed, and busy themselves with their children’s activities. But they invest little effort into cultivating conversations with each other.  IDC Marriage Ministry is aware of this and as such, we strive to be the catalyst for couples who need a
space to connect
.  We arrange occasions such as a date night where they can have fun, remember why they fell in love, and eat a meal that someone else cooked.

Premarital counseling is also one of the many services we offer here at IDC. Many marriages start off well intended, but the couples are not prepared. IDC Marriage Ministry uses seasoned couples, to mentor, encourage, and provide support for couples during those first few years of marriage. We allow older couples to share their experiences and to be a tether for couples who are just stepping into marriage for the first time via seminars
and workshops
.

IDC Marriage Ministry is here to help to provide a place for couples to strengthen their
faith, spend time together, and build a community. These are all important
elements in helping these couples stay married.

Marriage is a partnership ordained by God. Marriage involves both husband and wife; the only other person that should be involved in a marriage is the Trinity; which is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Martin and Fifika Bain believe this statement with all their heart.

They first made contact at Fifika’s first day at work at the Public Treasury. It was love for Martin at first sight, but Fifika took a bit longer to warm up to him as she was engaged to someone else at the time. However, God has a way of directing your future.

After what she had experienced in the former relationship it was hard for her to trust anyone else. She tried her best to avoid Martin, but it did not stop Martin from perusing her. As a result, she turned to God, prayed for His direction, and asked Him to confirm that Martin was the one for her, by revealing it to someone whom she trusted- her mother, the late Betty V. Henfield-McMinns.

When you pray and ask God for directions or confirmation, He will come through for you. One day her mother called her into the bedroom and told her that God revealed that Martin was “the one”…she then let her feelings go and said, “Ok”.

On Saturday, December 13th, 1992, she was surprised with an engagement ring at a birthday gathering. The next day the engagement ring was prayed for in a Sunday service. On Saturday November 4th, 1995 they were united in Holy Matrimony at the Southland Cathedral Church of God where they both attended at the time. To God be the glory great things He hath done!

In 1999, she experienced in demonstration what the wedding vows was all about by her beloved, darling husband, when she became seriously ill, her husband’s reaction was phenomenal, he took special care of her. He gave her baths, cooked and fed her, and took care of their seven year old daughter. He truly demonstrated the characteristics of a man of God, a husband, and dedication to their marriage.

They believe that if you want the effectiveness of having a great wife, men/husbands, you must love your wife. You must give love in order to receive it! This is how women were designed. Men, you are the giver and we are the receiver…this is called “The Boomerang Effect”. Wives, if you want a great husband, then we must learn to surrender to, submit, and respect our husbands. In both cases, this is the will of God!

Because of their experiences, they have been instrumental in counselling and praying with persons who have marital or relational problems. They are currently the presidents of the Marriage Ministry at the Independence Drive Church of God, under the leadership of Bishop Joseph A. Smith, Senior Pastor.

May God continue to bless them and their ministry!
